Chels-o-graphs?

"J-Pop"
The first photogram I printed came from my love of Japanese art, in which I used transparencies to merge both the current and the classic into a comical and visually appealing composition. "The Shining"-esque glow of the monster combined with the ominous black waves add an element of bad-horror-movie to the piece, but the obviously stuffed Gozilla figure pushes it into the quirky, fun pop-art realm.

"Grandma's Vanity"
This one was created by using several objects that bend and refract light as they pass through, which manufactures interesting patterns. These items were also things that I would expect to find on a elderly woman's dressing table as nostalgia from her nights in flapper dresses at the local speakeasy. This print could either have a racy narrative to accompany it or it can be admired simply for the variations of light that are presented.

"Super-Imposed"
This synthetic scenery was created to encourage the viewer to consider how commonplace these types of images have become in our lives, and how desensitized were are to their intensity and violence. By making the pavement darker, it draws attention to the sheer size and destruction of the explosion. Hard edges make the layering unmistakeable, and thus, signify the unnatural, even surreal qualities of such a powerful release of energy onto a undeserving landscape.

I'm really excited to see everyone's work! This should be a fun crit.
See you on Monday!
